What will it take in Nayland?
Three things that help Oliver plan a job here before he comes out.
- Old fruit or nut trees from the orchard days? Say how many, and whether the stumps should come out too.
- Near Nayland College or Nayland Primary? Mention it, so the work can be timed around drop-off and pick-up.
- Big redwood or sequoia on the section? Give its height against the house and say what it would fall toward.
How the team does it
- Climbed and taken down in sections, each piece lowered on ropes, or felled in one where there’s room.
- Branches chipped on site, and the stump ground out if you want it gone.
- The work area cleaned up before the team leaves.
What Oliver needs for the quote
- A photo of the whole tree, with the house in shot
- Its height against the house
- What’s under or near it
- The way in: gate, side path or drive
- Your street
Trees and sections in Nayland
Nayland covers 0.84 square kilometres of northern Stoke, about 5.4 km from the cathedral. Its population grew from about 1,600 in 1996 to 2,097 in 2023, and 46% of its homes have three bedrooms.
Nayland Road was early orchard and hop country. Mr Harley grew hops below the bank, and fruit growing in Stoke began in the 1890s with plantings along the road. The streets between Main Road Stoke and Nayland Road carry writers’ names, from Byron and Keats to Sargeson and Wordsworth.
On Nayland Road, Broadgreen House was built of cob around 1855, and Edmund Buxton planted its giant sequoia and Tasmanian blue gum soon after. Six listed redwoods stand at 491 Nayland Road, and Nayland Primary has a listed sycamore. Nayland College is in the suburb too.

Nayland questions
Something else? Call 0800 000 105 or send the tree through.
Can you remove old fruit trees and grind the stumps?
Yes. Old orchard trees come out and the stumps are ground below the surface, so the ground can go back to lawn.
Do you work across the rest of Stoke too?
Yes. Nayland is part of Stoke, and the team works right across it, from the airport end to the foothills.
