Arborist in Britannia Heights, Nelson
Britannia Heights looks out over Tasman Bay from above State Highway 6. On a recent job here the team pruned trees back off a house, let light back onto the washing line and opened up the bay view.

What will it take in Britannia Heights?
Three things that help Oliver plan a job here before he comes out.
- Drive on The Cliffs or Princes Drive? Say how close a van can park, and whether the tree stands above or below the house.
- Pōhutukawa or another tree on the seaward side? Send a photo showing what’s below it: a deck, the road or a neighbour’s roof.
- Big conifer such as a sequoia or macrocarpa? Give a rough height against the house.
How the team does it
- Climbed and taken down in sections, each piece lowered on ropes, or felled in one where there’s room.
- Branches chipped on site, and the stump ground out if you want it gone.
- The work area cleaned up before the team leaves.
What Oliver needs for the quote
- A photo of the whole tree, with the house in shot

Trees and sections in Britannia Heights
The suburb sits on the bay between Stepneyville and Tāhunanui: 0.82 square kilometres with the Moncrieff and Pipers Park reserves, about 1.9 km from the cathedral. The 2000s are the commonest build decade, some homes go back to the 1880s, and 27% of residents are 65 or older.
Its best-known tree is the Songer Tree, on the street called Britannia Heights: a giant sequoia planted on Arbor Day 1900 where the flag went up for the New Zealand Company’s landing in 1841. Another big sequoia stands nearby in Mt Vernon Place.
The city’s plan also lists English oaks on The Cliffs, a heritage pōhutukawa on Richardson Street, and a woodland with a Moreton Bay fig, a Canary Island palm and pōhutukawa down on the Rocks Road reserve.

Something else? Call 0800 000 105 or send the tree through.
Can you prune trees back off the house?
Yes. On the July job here trees were pruned away from the walls and roof of a weatherboard house, and the light and the view came back with it.
Do you work on the hillside sections above the bay?
Yes. Say where a van can park and how far it is to the tree, and the team plans the way in around it.
