What will it take in Nelson South?
Three things that help Oliver plan a job here before he comes out.
- Older house close to a big tree? Pace out the gap from trunk to wall, and note what’s under the canopy: roof, spouting or a shed.
- On or just off Waimea Road? Say whether there’s off-street parking or a back lane for the truck.
- Section backs onto Fairfield Park, Wigzell Park or another reserve? Say which, and send a photo looking toward it.
How the team does it
- Climbed and taken down in sections, each piece lowered on ropes, or felled in one where there’s room.
- Branches chipped on site, and the stump ground out if you want it gone.
- The work area cleaned up before the team leaves.
What Oliver needs for the quote
- A photo of the whole tree, with the house in shot
- Its height against the house
- What’s under or near it
- The way in: gate, side path or drive
- Your street

Trees and sections in Nelson South
Nelson South runs from the edge of the city centre toward Bishopdale, with Waimea Road as its spine and the Grampians behind. Its houses are older than most: the 1940s are the commonest build decade, and some go back to the 1880s, so many trees are as old as the homes beside them.
It also grows some of the biggest trees in New Zealand. The redwood at Melrose House on Brougham Street is the largest of its kind recorded in the country. Fairfield Park, the old settlers’ cemetery, has a redwood, a tupelo and a tulip tree, and Waimea Road has 66 listed trees along it, second only to Suffolk Road in the city’s plan.
Nelson Hospital, Nelson College and six reserves sit inside the suburb, and many sections back onto Fairfield Park, Wigzell Park or Melrose Gardens.

Great job by Ollie removing a tree for us here in Nelson. Turned up on time, explained the plan clearly, and worked safely and carefully given how close the tree was to the house. Left the section completely clean afterwards too. Fair price and top communication throughout. Highly recommend for anyone needing tree work done right.
Recent work in Nelson South
Pin oak reductions at a school, September 2026
Several mature pin oaks round a school field, each climbed and brought down a size. The truck and chipper were set up inside a taped-off work zone, and the branches were chipped on site.

Views restored for new home owners, October 2026
On a hillside section, trees and shrubs were cut back or taken out and the woodchip left on the beds. The Norfolk pine that framed the outlook stayed, and the view over the city came back.

Tree work in Nelson South
We used Ollie’s services to remove some big oak trees from our property as they were down a steep driveway that overhangs a road. He did an excellent job of removing them safely and in a timely manner. Will be recommending him to everyone we know in Nelson as he is quick, efficient and safe. Thank you Ollie!

Something else? Call 0800 000 105 or send the tree through.
Can you open up a view without taking every tree out?
Yes. On the October job here the Norfolk pine stayed, and the trees and shrubs around it were cut back or removed to open the view over the city.
Do you take on big jobs for schools and organisations?
Yes. The pin oak reductions round a Nelson South school field were done in September, with the work zone taped off and the branches chipped on site.
