Arborist in The Wood, Nelson
The Wood sits right beside the city centre, with newer homes on old market-garden land and some of the tallest trees in Nelson next door. On its tight sections, planning the way in is half the job.

What will it take in The Wood?
Three things that help Oliver plan a job here before he comes out.
- Tight infill section? Measure the narrowest point of the gate or side path, so the team knows whether the chipper comes in or the wood goes out by hand.
- Shared drive? Say who else uses it, so parking can be planned and the drive kept clear.
- Section on the Botanics boundary? Say which side of the fence the trunk stands on.
How the team does it
- Climbed and taken down in sections, each piece lowered on ropes, or felled in one where there’s room.
- Branches chipped on site, and the stump ground out if you want it gone.
- The work area cleaned up before the team leaves.
What Oliver needs for the quote
- A photo of the whole tree, with the house in shot
- Its height against the house
- What’s under or near it
- The way in: gate, side path or drive
- Your street
Trees and sections in The Wood
The Wood borders the city on its north-east side, about a kilometre from the cathedral. Italian families worked its frost-free ground as market gardens for generations, and most of those gardens became housing in the 1990s, still the commonest build decade here.
Half the homes have one or two bedrooms, so units, townhouses and shared drives are everywhere. For tree work that means the chipper may not fit down the drive, and the neighbours may need it kept clear.
The trees around them are anything but small. The Botanics Reserve has London planes the council ranks among the tallest and largest in the country. Milton Street has a bunya bunya and a giant sequoia planted around 1870 at the old Cawthron Institute site, and the deodars and Douglas firs John Sharp planted at Fellworth House.

He is highly skilled, gives excellent advice.
Cleans up beautifully before he completes the job.
Cant recommend him highly enough.

The Wood questions
Something else? Call 0800 000 105 or send the tree through.
Can you work on a tight section with a shared drive?
Yes. When the chipper can’t come in, the team carries the branches out to it, and parking is planned with you so the drive stays usable.
Do you work on sections next to the Botanics?
Yes. Plenty of The Wood backs onto the Botanics Reserve. Say which side of the boundary the tree stands on when you send it through.
