Arborist in The Brook, Nelson
The Brook follows its valley south from the city to the sanctuary fence, with bush on the hills and villas and bungalows on the flat. Steep drives and banks shape how trees come down here.

What will it take in The Brook?
Three things that help Oliver plan a job here before he comes out.
- Up the valley toward the sanctuary? Say how far the tree is from the road, and whether the drive is steep or narrow.
- Tree on a bank above the house or the stream? Mention any slips or cracks you’ve seen on that bank, with a photo of the base.
- On Seymour Avenue or nearby? Say whether the tree is on your section or on the road reserve out front.
How the team does it
- Climbed and taken down in sections, each piece lowered on ropes, or felled in one where there’s room.
- Branches chipped on site, and the stump ground out if you want it gone.
- The work area cleaned up before the team leaves.
What Oliver needs for the quote
- A photo of the whole tree, with the house in shot
- Its height against the house
- What’s under or near it
- The way in: gate, side path or drive
- Your street
Trees and sections in The Brook
The valley runs from the edge of the city up to the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary: 690 hectares of mature beech forest behind a 14.4 km predator-proof fence, finished in 2016. Bush comes right down to plenty of back fences.
Nearer town, the Seymour Avenue Heritage Precinct is a short, tree-lined street of transitional villas and Californian bungalows, first subdivided in the 1910s. Out front at number 4 stands an English oak Henry Seymour planted in 1842. A flood carried it away soon after; it was found on the Maitai bank and replanted higher up.
The valley sides can move. After the August 2022 rain the council bought out ten properties at risk from slips coming off public land. Little new building happens here, with just 38 new homes consented from 2013 to 2026, so most of the valley’s trees have had decades to grow.

The Brook questions
Something else? Call 0800 000 105 or send the tree through.
Can you get a tree out from a steep valley section?
Yes. When a truck can’t get close, the wood and branches are carried out to the chipper on the road. Tell Oliver how steep the drive is when you send the tree through.
Do you work on sections next to the sanctuary fence?
Yes. Say how close the tree is to the fence, and the job is planned so nothing lands on it.
